Islamabad Urban Water Supply Project, Pakistan

Apr.02.2026
Water is the source of life and the cornerstone of urban development. As the national capital, Islamabad, Pakistan, faces increasing pressure on its existing water supply system with urban expansion and population growth. Ensuring that all residents have access to safe, stable, and clean drinking water has become a core issue in improving urban livability and supporting the enhancement of people's livelihoods. In this Islamabad water supply project, our company's high-performance PVC-UH water supply pipes are selected as the core water transmission medium. Relying on their outstanding product features and mature construction technology, the project aims to create a high-quality water supply system that can withstand the test of time, injecting lasting energy into the well-being of Islamabad's residents.

This construction project covers the urban area of Islamabad and key surrounding districts. The core task is to lay an efficient and durable PVC-UH water supply network, connecting to existing water supply facilities to achieve reasonable allocation and stable delivery of water resources, addressing issues such as insufficient water supply and aging pipelines in the region, and meeting the water needs of residents, commercial operations, and public facilities. The project adheres to the construction philosophy of 'quality first, safety foremost, efficient performance, and environmentally friendly,' strictly following international engineering construction standards and relevant local regulations in Pakistan, balancing construction efficiency with ecological protection, and striving to make the project a model of livelihood infrastructure and technical cooperation under the China-Pakistan jointly built "Belt and Road" framework.

Bai Shunxing Pipeline's PVC-UH water supply pipes serve as the core primary material for this project. The full name is Polyvinyl Chloride Ultra-High Strength Water Supply Pipe, made from PVC compound with a minimum required strength (MRS) of no less than 25MPa, and formed through advanced extrusion processes. It features an integrally molded steel-reinforced soundproof socket structure, with overall performance far exceeding traditional water supply pipes, perfectly adapting to Islamabad's climate conditions and construction requirements. The pipe is lightweight and easy to handle and transport, significantly reducing on-site construction effort and transportation costs. Compared with traditional cast iron and concrete pipes, construction costs can be reduced by 30%-50%, making it especially suitable for pipeline installation in Islamabad's complex urban terrain. Additionally, it has excellent corrosion resistance, effectively resisting various chemical agents in local water quality, preventing pipe rust and leakage issues, and ensuring clean and compliant water supply. With high environmental stiffness and excellent impact resistance, in flattening tests, the distance between two plates can reach 40% of the pipe's outer diameter, enabling it to withstand external forces and geological settlement during construction, avoiding potential pipe damage. Moreover, the PVC-UH water supply pipe is designed with a service life of up to 50 years, requiring no frequent maintenance or replacement, which can significantly reduce long-term operation and maintenance costs, ensuring the stable long-term operation of the water supply system and providing solid support for building a sustainable water supply guarantee system in Islamabad.

To ensure construction quality and progress, the project team completed comprehensive preparation work in advance, strictly controlling every construction stage. During the material entry phase, strict acceptance standards were established. All PVC-UH water supply pipes, fittings, and associated auxiliary materials are provided with product certificates, warranty certificates, and inspection reports. After entry, batches are sampled for testing, focusing on pipe appearance, dimensional accuracy, and pressure resistance, to prevent the use of non-conforming materials. At the same time, specialized storage sheds are built in accordance with regulations to prevent UV aging from outdoor exposure, and stacking height is strictly controlled within 1.5 meters to ensure the pipe performance is not affected. During the technical preparation stage, construction personnel were organized to familiarize themselves with design drawings and, combined with the local geological conditions, climate characteristics, and on-site actual conditions in Islamabad, optimize construction plans, clarify pipe laying routes, elevation, and connection processes, and conduct special technical briefings, with key training on the connection operation specifications of PVC-UH water supply pipes to ensure each construction worker proficiently masters the construction points.

The PVC-UH water supply pipe construction strictly follows the principle of 'underground first, aboveground later; main pipe first, branch later; large pipe first, small pipe later,' with standardized operations throughout. During construction, site line marking and foundation pit excavation are first carried out, accurately controlling excavation depth according to design elevation to avoid over or under excavation. After excavation, base leveling and compaction are promptly performed to prevent base settlement from affecting pipe installation quality; for complex geological sections, reinforcement measures are taken to ensure construction safety. In the pipe cutting phase, a specialized PVC pipe cutter is used to ensure pipe ends are flat and the end faces perpendicular to the pipe axis. After cutting, the pipe ends are beveled and deburred, ensuring smooth and clean bonding surfaces. Connection work uses a combination of steel-frame integrated rubber ring connections and special adhesive bonding. Before connecting, the socket and spigot working surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, the rubber ring is placed in the socket groove in the prescribed direction, and an appropriate amount of lubricant is applied to ensure precise alignment and straight axes. After insertion, a feeler gauge is used to fully check the rubber ring position, ensuring every joint is inspected to guarantee connection stability and water tightness. When bonding with adhesive, it is strictly applied in the order of 'apply to spigot first, then to socket,' evenly applying the adhesive and controlling the amount to ensure firm bonding. During curing, the pipes must not be moved or subjected to external force.

After the pipeline installation is completed, backfilling should be carried out promptly. The backfill soil should be fine soil without impurities or sharp objects, compacted in layers to prevent deformation of the pipeline under pressure. At the same time, in accordance with construction standards, a hydrostatic test should be conducted on the pipeline at twice the nominal pressure to ensure there are no leaks or damages. Only after passing the hydrostatic test can the next process proceed. During construction, the project team strictly implements international ESHS standards, strengthens on-site safety management, sets up safety warning signs, standardizes the operation procedures of construction personnel, and prevents safety hazards such as falling from heights and mechanical injuries. Attention is paid to environmental protection, construction waste is cleaned up in a timely manner, construction dust and noise pollution are minimized, and impacts on the lives of nearby residents and the ecological environment are avoided. In addition, the project team actively fulfills social responsibility by optimizing construction routes according to local conditions to reduce the impact on residents' travel, providing temporary employment opportunities, and offering technical construction support, earning broad recognition from the local government and the public.

As an important livelihood project in Islamabad, this PVC-UH water supply pipeline network construction project not only relates to improving urban water supply capacity but also carries the local people's expectations for a better life. The project team will uphold a high sense of responsibility, strictly control quality, safety, and progress, fully utilize the performance advantages of PVC-UH water supply pipes, and rely on professional construction technology and efficient execution to complete the pipeline network installation task with high quality. Once the project is completed, it will significantly enhance the stability and quality of water supply in Islamabad, effectively solve regional water supply issues, reduce non-revenue water losses, inject new vitality into urban development, and further deepen China-Pakistan cooperation in infrastructure construction. It will demonstrate the strength of Chinese technology and quality, adding a new testament to China-Pakistan friendship.

In the future, Guizhou Baishunxing Pipe Industry Co., Ltd. will continue to provide post-project operation and maintenance services, regularly inspect and maintain the PVC-UH water supply network, promptly identify and address various potential hazards, ensure the long-term stable operation of the water supply system, and protect the water safety of every resident in Islamabad with reliable engineering quality and high-quality service, contributing to the improvement of local livelihoods and urban development.
